What is a Virtual Assistant or VA?
"An office manager in a modem, the virtual assistant is a home-based worker who uses electronic technology to do everything an onsite assistant can do. But since they're contract workers, not employees, they can save small and large businesses time, money and red tape." Mary Campbell, ABCNews.com
How Does a Virtual Assistant Work? Work assignments are communicated through e-mail, phone, fax, mail, diskette or even Instant Messenge (IM). The Virtual Assistant will complete assignments in the office and return the completed documents to you by an agreed upon deadline. Having the work done from a remote location actually saves you time. Often times, assignments are completed and returned to you faster because the virtual assistant does not have to bring them to you in person (email is a great time saver!).
Who Needs a Virtual Assistant? VAs work with people of all kinds; authors, students, sales people, consultants, coaches, executives, professionals, entrepreneurs--anyone who wants to be professionally successful and live a more balanced life with more free time to do the things he/she wants to do!
Clients are most likely to hire virtual assistants to save money - virtual assistants pay for their own equipment, taxes, training, healthcare and insurance - or because they need help with a temporary project.
